Review an Inverter with the DC Insulation-Monitoring System
By Highidea Power · 23 October 2026 · 3 min read

An isolated inverter and a compatible insulation-monitoring arrangement are separate requirements. Before adding an inverter to a monitored station DC system, identify the monitored boundary, its earth/reference scheme, the monitor's applicable topology and the converter's relevant interfaces. “Isolated” or “zero backflow” alone does not establish how the monitor will respond or which downstream circuits it covers.
Start with what the monitor measures
An insulation monitoring device for an unearthed system evaluates a defined insulation-related quantity within its supported network. The connected circuit, capacitance and power-electronic structures can influence its measurement conditions. It is not enough to know that an alarm contact exists.
Bender's iso415R datasheet identifies intended unearthed AC/DC systems, permissible system leakage capacitance and response conditions. It also notes that DC components in certain rectifier arrangements can influence response behavior. These are model-specific statements; they do not diagnose every station or approve the iso415R for any Highidea inverter.
The useful enquiry is therefore about two actual products in one actual system. Keep the monitor model and configuration alongside the proposed inverter variant rather than comparing only product categories.
Trace the monitored and isolated boundaries
If input and output are galvanically separated, do not assume a monitor on one side necessarily assesses insulation on the other. Identify what is intended to be covered on each side and who is responsible for that protection/monitoring design.
Control and communications connections can also cross a conceptual boundary. Record their documented isolation/reference requirements; do not assume that a power-transformer description covers every auxiliary interface.
Zero backflow is a different claim about a specified reverse-power path or condition. It must not be translated into “no effect on any insulation monitor,” “no earth-related current” or complete system isolation without supporting evidence.
Assemble the joint-review inputs
Boundary | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
Station network | Approved topology, normal/fault states, earth arrangement and the monitor's intended coverage. |
Insulation monitor | Exact model, supported systems, relevant settings, capacitance/response limits and manual revision. |
Inverter | Input/output structure, isolation information and relevant filter, reference and interface data supplied for this review. |
Interconnections | Actual power, control and monitoring interfaces, with their documented references and isolation. |
Verification | Approved method, expected indications, permitted limits, responsible parties and restoration evidence. |
Do not fill unknown technical inputs with generic values from another manufacturer's sheet. A catalogue word cannot replace the supplier's answer to a defined system question.
Separate a changed reading from a proved fault
Suppose, hypothetically, a monitored system reports a changed indication after a converter is added. Preserve the before/after configuration, original alarm/measurement, operating state and timing. The change merits investigation but does not by itself identify damaged insulation, an incompatible monitor or a defective converter.
Ask the responsible suppliers and electrical team which supported method can distinguish those possibilities. A measurement outside its applicable conditions is not a reliable basis for dismissing or confirming a fault. Keep the installation's protective response in force while the issue is assessed.
Never disconnect an earth connection, disable the monitor or apply an insulation tester to connected electronics as an improvised diagnostic. Such work needs the exact equipment procedures, isolation requirements and qualified authorization.
Close the system-level result
Retain the approved coverage drawing, product identities, supplier responses, settings references, observations, limitations and approving engineer. A successful review applies to the documented configuration and relevant operating states, not every later converter or card replacement.
Send Highidea the station/monitor description and required DC-to-AC task through our contact page. Ask for the selected inverter's relevant information so the station designer and monitor supplier can complete the joint review.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does galvanic isolation mean both sides share one monitoring result?
Do not assume that. Define the monitored boundary and the required coverage on each side.
Does zero backflow prove insulation-monitor compatibility?
No. Reverse-power behavior and the monitor's measurement conditions are different questions.
Can an alarm be suppressed while compatibility is investigated?
Only the responsible parties under an approved site procedure can authorize protective changes. This review does not authorize disabling or concealing an indication.
